Who this is

Shoreline Web Design is one person: me, Bryan Moore, working from Richmond Beach in North Seattle. Where this page says "I", that is who it means. There is no team and nobody else with access.

This policy covers this website and the forms on it. It does not cover the websites I build for clients, which are the responsibility of the businesses that own them.

What I collect

Only what you type into a form and choose to send. There are two forms on this site.

The contact form asks for your name, your email address, your business name, what your enquiry is about, and your message. Name, email and message are required; the rest are optional.

The free homepage redesign form asks for your name, your email address, your business name, your current website address, and anything you'd like to tell me about the business. Name, email and business name are required.

If you email me directly instead, then I have whatever your email contains, which is how email has always worked.

Analytics, and how to refuse them

This site can use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages get read. It is off until you say otherwise.

• Nothing loads before you agree. The Google Analytics script is not on the page when you arrive. It is only fetched if you press That's fine on the banner, so choosing No thanks means Google is never contacted at all and no cookie is ever set.
• What it collects if you do agree. Cookies in your browser, plus your IP address, the pages you view, roughly where you are and what device you are on, sent to Google. I use it to know which articles are worth writing more of. I cannot identify you from it; Google may be able to.
• Changing your mind. Your answer is remembered in your own browser, not on my server. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings makes the banner reappear so you can answer again.
• Refusing costs you nothing. Every page works identically either way. There is no content behind the banner and no nagging if you decline.

What I don't collect

This section is the important one, and it is short on purpose.

• No tracking pixels and no advertising. Nothing here reports back to Meta, LinkedIn or anyone else, and this site takes no part in any advertising network. Google Analytics, if you allow it, is the only third party involved and it is not used for advertising.
• No mailing list. Sending a form does not subscribe you to anything, because there is nothing to subscribe to. If I reply, it is a person writing back about your enquiry.
• No selling or sharing. I do not sell, rent or trade what you send me, and I do not hand it to anyone else for their own purposes.

What is stored in your browser

One thing. If you use the light and dark toggle in the navigation, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the name theme, so the site remembers it next time.

That value never leaves your device and I cannot see it. It is not a cookie and it is not an identifier. Clearing your browsing data removes it.

Who else is involved

Running a website means other companies are unavoidably in the chain. These are all of them.

• Netlify hosts this site and receives the form submissions. As with any web host, their servers record technical information about requests, which can include your IP address and browser type. That is their standard logging, not something I set up or can switch off.
• Porkbun registers the domain and forwards email sent to my address on to my personal inbox.
• DigitalOcean serves one small icon used by the dark mode button, so your browser makes a request to their network when a page loads. That is left over from the starter template this site was built on, and I intend to remove it by hosting the icon here instead.

Each of those has its own privacy policy covering what it does with that information.

How long I keep things

Form submissions stay in the Netlify dashboard and in my email, so I have a record of what we discussed. I delete enquiries that did not turn into work once they are clearly no longer live.

Records relating to actual client work are kept while I am working with that client, and afterwards for as long as I need them for tax and accounting purposes.

What you can ask me to do

Write to hello@shorelinewebdesign.com and ask me to send you a copy of anything I hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Tell me which email address you used and I will find it.

You do not need to give a reason and I will not ask for one. Depending on where you live you may have a formal right to this under laws such as the GDPR, but I would rather just do it because you asked.

Children

This site sells web design to businesses. It is not aimed at children and I do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Security, honestly stated

This site is static, has no database and has no login, so there is no store of user accounts here to breach. Form submissions travel over an encrypted connection and sit in Netlify's dashboard and my email, both protected by strong passwords and two-factor authentication.

Nobody can promise perfect security and I am not going to. What I can tell you is that the amount of information held here is very small, and that is the most effective protection there is.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the bottom changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify you, so if it matters to you, check back.
